G12 Geology: Rock layers
The Earth consists of four layers: crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core; The inner core is the center of the Earth, while the crust is the layer that we see on the surface. Compared to other layers of the Earth, the Earth’s crust is a very thin layer; Its thickness ranges between 0-60 kilometers, depending on location. Thin layers are formed in the oceans, and they are called oceanic crust. The thickest layers include land, called continental crust, and mountains are the thickest parts of it. The crust is made up of tectonic plates, which are constantly moving; Where they collide with each other or move away from each other. This continuous movement explains the causes of continental movement that occurs over long periods of time.
